“ISKL had the slogan of 'big school opportunities with small school feel' and I think that pretty much sums up my experience at ISKL. ISKL (the old Ampang campus) was the smallest international school I attended but was also the closest knit community I had throughout my childhood years. I made some of my closest friends during my time at ISKL as well as the closest relationships with teachers and staff members. After having moved around a few times, it felt like the perfect way to conclude four years of high school at ISKL, being in a community that I felt that I belonged to.”

His thing was he could walk on his hands...he would walk up and down the hallway on his hands, just to get a rise out of the kids.”

“Junior year I traveled with a group of students and teachers to the Philippines on the Habitat for Humanity trip. The whole week we were serving and working hard to help the people of this village. We stayed with a local family and I remember feeling overwhelmed by their generosity.  They had so little, and yet gave us so much. The week was sweaty and tiring, but so satisfying.  I very clearly remember riding back to the mainland on the ferry, with an overwhelming sense of peace.”

What keeps us connected? Our third culture kid identities. Our shared experiences during our formative years. We don't have to explain much to each other when we tell our stories – we already get the contexts. Our shared post-ISKL experiences in our home countries that highlight how we are a bit different from those who have never been outside their countries/cultures – which unites us. Our continued interests in diversity and the multicultural world.
